Misery Loves Company by Elsie Ramsey

  • October 14, 2020November 29, 2021

I want us to share our stories.

I’m offering up mine in the hope that you’ll feel moved to share yours.

I’m not a clinician and I don’t have the answers.

But in the 20 plus years I’ve been dealing with the “black dog”, I have some hard-earned wisdom about what works for me. These gems come from the lengthy and often excruciating process we call trial and error.

I love to commiserate and actually think collective wallowing is therapeutic; not indulgent. That’s a radical philosophy in a world that says we get ahead through toughness, perseverance, and a “positive attitude”.

I say they’re wrong. So wrong that a pervasive misery lies just under the surface of modern life. Pretend it’s not there if you like but denial comes with risk. Tragedy often creeps up on us while we’re averting our eyes.

If any of these sentiments resonate with you, join our storytelling revolution.

Write me privately, and if you’d like to be published we can do that. Either anonymously or not; that’s up to you.

Come on in–the water’s fine.
